Randy C. Forbord "Pops" to his children and grandchildren, died on Sunday morning, July 14, 2024, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 18, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 am. Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.
Randy was born on April 7, 1949, in Benson, MN, the first son of Clarence and Evelyn (Olson) Forbord. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church. He grew up in Benson and graduated from Benson High School in 1968. Randy loved spending his summers with his parents and siblings at the family cabin on Lake Scandi. Upon graduation from high school, Randy attended the University of Minnesota Twin Cities for Mortuary Science. He had one quarter left to graduate with his degree when his Dad, Clarence, became ill so he left school to go home to help care for him.
In 1975 Randy began work for BNSF and would go on to dedicate 34 years of his life as a Track Laborer. Randy was extremely proud of his work for BNSF and worked on Tie Gangs and derailments across the Midwest. His co-workers became like family to him. Kevin (Lippy) Lindstrom, Bob Rooney & Steve Peterson were brought up almost nightly. He was extremely proud to be a Union member of the Band of Brotherhood.
Randy enjoyed fishing, hunting, planting his massive garden every year at his farm and then helping his children with the canning. He grew up in the greatest era for music and passed his love of classic rock down to his children. He was a diehard Minnesota Vikings fan and also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins. His love of rewatching old western movies is one thing his children did not get on board with.
Randy is survived by his daughter Hilary (Chris) Thue of Dickinson ND; his son Nick Forbord of Benson; his grandson Parker Klemm of Dickinson ND; two granddaughters Mila and London Thue of Dickinson ND; brother Scott (Jolene) Forbord of Willmar; sister Tammy (Jim) Williams of DeGraff; nieces and nephews: Jacob, Justin (Krystal), Josh, Kayla, James, and Matthew; and great nieces and nephews: Landon, Ava, Hallie, Keyshawn, Hayden, Bowden, and Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Evelyn Forbord, and brother Brad Forbord.
Blessed be the memory of Randall “Randy” Forbord.
