Rodney Dean Ellingson

Rodney Dean Ellingson, 77, of Benson, died on Friday morning, December 15, 2023, at his home in Torning Township, Swift County, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson and will continue Friday, December 22, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial will be in  the Six Mile Grove Cemetery, south of Benson. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.

Rodney Dean Ellingson was born September 27, 1946, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Orin J. Ellingson and Violet (Balas) Ellingson. He was baptized October 20, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church November 5, 1961. Rod grew up in Benson, attending Country School in Chippewa County, and graduating from Benson High School in 1964.

October 25, 1969, Rod married Linda VanderWeyst at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson.

Rod lived and farmed all his life in the Benson area. He also drove truck for Tyler/Case and hauled cattle for Hustons. He enjoyed working with his co-workers, family, and friends. He liked to hunt and fish, and took many fishing trips. He  was a member of the Tractor Club and Car Club, attended many sporting events for his children and grandchildren, and was devoted to his faith, family, and friends.

Rod is survived by his wife Linda Ellingson of Benson, MN; children: Tisha Ellingson of Rice, MN, Todd Ellingson of Benson, MN, and Toby (Katie) Ellingson of Benson, MN; five grandchildren: Brandy (Gene) Day, Brendon (Kassie) Ellingson, Brooklyn Ellingson, Briella Ellingson, and Taylor Ellingson; four great-grandchildren: Miah Moreno, Yesenia Moreno, Elayna Day, and Hudson Ellingson; siblings: Jean (Dean) Johnson of Starbuck, MN, Marlene Amundson of Minnetonka, MN, and David (Lori) Ellingson of Big Lake, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents Orin and Violet Ellingson, daughter Terri in 1976, and many aunts and uncles.
