Roger Ewald Grothe

Roger Ewald Grothe, age 77, of Danvers, Minnesota, died Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at his home. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, Minnesota. Interment is at the Benson City Cemetery. Zniewski Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Roger Ewald Grothe was born July 16, 1946, at Swift County Benson Hospital in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Ewald and Verona (Schuerman) Grothe. He lived his life on the family farm in Danvers, Minnesota, Marysland Township.

Roger was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Danvers, Minnesota. His younger years were spent at church with many of his Schuerman and Grothe relatives. Roger graduated from Benson High School in 1964.

Roger’s adult years were spent farming the land with his Dad and Uncle Paul. He worked at the Appleton prison for a number of years and also did custom planting and harvesting for Dale Luschen of Benson, Minnesota.

Roger enjoyed meeting up with friends at Sandy’s Café to get the latest news and shake dice. He liked driving around checking crops. He spent many Sunday afternoons at Pelican Lake fishing with family and sharing potluck meals. He also enjoyed ice fishing with his nephews. Roger was an avid T. V. sports fan, watching the Vikings, Timberwolves, WMBA, WWBA, Gophers, and Twins. His dog, Sparky, was a special, much-loved pet.

Roger served his country for four years in the Benson National Guard.

Roger is survived by his siblings: Phyllis (Gary) Minkel of New London, MN, Ron (Robin) Grothe of LeSueur, MN, and Cheryll (Steve Crabe) Grothe of Mesa, AZ; nephews: Jeff, Steve, Eric, and Cory Rodelius, and Sage Grothe; nieces: Jessica Ecklund, Megan Grothe, Mary Beth Wilhelmi, and Veronica Seal; many great-nieces and nephews; and four great-great nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Ewald and Verona (Schuerman) Grothe and brother-in-law Mark Rodelius.
