Ruth Marie Schliep, 89, of Hopkins, MN, died on Friday morning, November 18, 2022, at the Covenant Living Care Center in Golden Valley. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 22, at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Benson City Cemetery. Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson in assisting the family with the arrangements. Ruth Marie Schliep was born on August 9, 1933, in Twin Brooks, South Dakota, the daughter of Loarf and Hilda (Wolters) Westphal. She was baptized in May of 1937 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hancock, Minnesota and confirmed there on May 4, 1947.
On March 21, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage to Melvin Paul Schliep at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hancock. After marriage they moved to the Twin Cities and raised their family in the Twin Cities area. Ruth was a faithful church member for her entire life. Providing a good home life for her family was always an important part of Ruth’s life. She was called from this life on Friday morning, November 18, 2022, at the Covenant Living Center in Golden Valley. She attained the age of 89 years, 3 Months, and 9 days.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Doug) Grussing of Hector, Minnesota and Wanda (Steve) Nelson of Minnetonka; grandchildren, Matt (Rochele) Grussing, Angela (Jade) Erickson, and Alex (Matt) Nelson; five great grandchildren, sisters, Marilyn (Kenny) Windholz of Ellis, Kansas, Mavis Mohr of Prior Lake, Elaine Mohr of Hancock, Jean (Garvin) Carstens of Willmar, sisters-in-law Jeanne Westphal of St. Paul, Helen Klucas of Benson, and Gladys (Michael) Ascheman of Lonsdale, and several other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son Charles, brothers Robert, Arthur, and James, sisters Helen Wilke, Margaret Fergusen, and Lauretta Thielen. Blessed be her memory.
