Sarah Kay Shurb

Sarah Shurb, age 48, of rural Louisburg, died Thursday, August 27, in Madison Healthcare Services.  Visitation will be from 4- 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, at Zion Lutheran Church’s orchard in Appleton, Minn. A private funeral and burial will be held at a later date.

Sarah Kay Shurb was born on April 22, 1972, in Madison MN, the 3rd daughter of Clayton (Pete) and Diane (Hansen) Risdahl. She was baptized at Faith Lutheran Church in Madison and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Sarah attended Appleton High School, where she graduated Class of 1990. Following graduation, she attended Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD until health issues forced her to return home and take a year off. She then went on to attend Alexandria Technical College for 2 years obtaining her degree in General Secretary and Business Office Management. Sarah was united in marriage to John Charles Shurb on August 9, 1997, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. John and Sarah then made their home in rural Louisburg, MN. They were blessed with 23 years of marriage and 2 beautiful children: Josie Marie and Brendan Charles.

Sarah's work life included several positions in the Appleton and Madison communities. She started out at Gary Hendricks Insurance Agency as a general secretary, moving on to work at Madison Healthcare Services as Payroll Clerk. From there she worked at Sewearable Designs as a receptionist/secretary and most recently worked as the Office manager at Zion Lutheran Church. Sarah was a lifelong member of Zion, serving on the church council and assisting with the food shelf.

In life, Sarah enjoyed spending time with family and friends, particularly lake days at the Larson's, “sister days” with Amy and Heidi, girlfriend trips with Sarah and Dawn, Christmas shopping trips with Dawn, Janine and Janell and of course a Bon Jovi concert or two. She also enjoyed a good book, scrapbooking, sports, being a Thirty One consultant, being outside loving up on her fur babies and watching her husband coaching high school sports. The thing which gave her the most pride, love and contentment in life was being a mom to Josie and Brendan. Watching them grow and learn, supporting them in anything they were involved in: band, cross country, basketball, baseball or track was what made her the happiest. They were 2 of the most important people in her life and she was over the moon proud of the young people they were becoming. Time spent with her family was most precious.

Sarah passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020, in Madison Healthcare Services.  She attained 48 years, 4 months, and 5 days of age.  Sarah is survived by her husband, John Shurb of Louisburg; their children, Josie and Brendan Shurb; her mother, Diane (Al) Risdahl-Jensen of Appleton; her sisters: Heidi (Tony) Roiland of Morris and Amy (Doug) Larson of Appleton; mother-in-law, Alice Shurb of Louisburg; two nieces: Rebecca Erickson and Demi Roiland; three nephews: Jacob Erickson (Brittney Ferrian), Chet (Nicole) Larson, and Stone Larson; two great- nephews: Ryder and Riggs; one great-niece, Raelyn; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.  Sarah was preceded in death by her father, Clayton “Pete” Risdahl; and her paternal and maternal grandparents.
