Scott D. Appell passed away unexpectedly on Dec 31st, 2023 after a brief illness. Our family was not expecting Scott's life to be cut so short. We are heartbroken and he will be forever missed.
Scott was born to Donald and Margery (Schafer) Appell on June 10th, 1964 in Osage, Iowa. They were thrilled to add a precious boy to their family of five girls. He is survived by his sisters: Linda Alexander Keigan (Roger), Joyce Appell, Marilyn Allmon, Carol Appell and Debra Shannon; many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends far and wide.
Scott will be fondly remembered for his gentle and loving nature, charm, quick wit and humor and for his deep spiritual reverence for all creation. He will be so missed by his loving dog Skyla Bean. His primary education was in Alexandria, Minnesota. His secondary education was in Earlham, Iowa. He continued his education at Iowa State University where he studied pre-med.
Scott was an avid lover of the outdoors, travel, music and our Minnesota lakes. His favorite memories were those made traveling with close friends to Australia and New Zealand where they lived and worked for several months. He settled in Seattle and was thrilled to work for NOAA on a research ship exploring the Alaskan deep oceans. Scott moved to Minneapolis to be closer to family and found his passion to save lives and help people as an EMT/paramedic. In 2007 the 35W bridge collapsed and as an emergency first responder he performed triage and assisted in the rescue of children from a school bus resting precariously on the bridge guardrail. We thank you Scott for your heroic service.
We cherish your memory for being a loving caregiver to our dear Mother after she was diagnosed with dementia. You are a bright light and cherished soul and you have left your loving footprints in all our hearts.
Scott's family respectfully requests donations in Scott's memory be made to Westwood Lutheran Church Rise Early Learning Center. A Celebration of Scott's Life is planned for Scott's birthday on June 10th, 2024. Details to follow.
