Sharon June Sanders

Sharon June Sanders, 79, of Benson, died on Monday, February 13, 2023, at the Meadow Lane Care Center in Benson, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Friday, February, 24, 2023, at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Swenoda Cemetery near Benson. Zniewski Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Sharon June Sanders was born on June 10, 1943, in Ortonville, Minnesota, the daughter of Herbert E. and Helen Jean (Guse) Saulsbury. She was baptized in 1943 at Grace Lutheran Church in Correll,  Minnesota and was confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson in 1957 by the Rev. Wians. She grew up in the Appleton and Benson area, attended country school in Correll and Appleton and graduated from Benson Senior High School in 1961.

On August 6, 1961 Sharon was united in marriage to Leroy Henry Sanders at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Val Hergesheimer. Sharon was a homemaker and enjoyed babysitting the grandkids. She worked as a secretary at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and from 1975-1987 Leroy and Sharon owned and operated the Union 76 gas station.

Sharon was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where she taught Bible School and VBS and a past member of the Shamrock Hest Riding Club. She enjoyed puzzles, reading, playing cards, crocheting, crafts, and most of all spending time with her family, especially the grandkids and great grand kids. She was called from this life on Monday morning, February 13, at the Meadow Lane Care Center in Benson. She attained the age of 79 years, 8 months, and 3 days.

She is survived by her husband Leroy Sanders of Benson, her children Brian Sanders of Benson, Jodie (Phil) Schulz of Willmar, Monica (Russell) Williston of Jensen Beach, Florida, and Trevor Sanders of Benson; grandchildren Jared (Ana) Dahl, Jason (Courtney) Dahl, Hannah Williston (Jordan), Leslie Williston, Taryn (Nick) Klein, Nick (Sara) Schulz, Seth Tieden, and Bobi Jo Drews; several great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a sister Darlene (Charles) Wilts of Benson, nieces and nephews, and several other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Herbert Saulsbury in 1999 and her mother Helen Saulsbury in 2008, her grandparents William and Mabel Guse and Vern and Minnie Saulsbury, siblings, Faye Schmidtke, Harlyn Saulsbury, and Lyn Saulsbury, and in-laws Henry and Ruth Sanders.
