Shirley J Mitteness, 84, passed away on February 8, 2023, at Scandi Haven Village in Benson, MN. Funeral services will be held on Friday June 2, 2023, at 11 am at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. Visitation will be one hour prior to services, from 10 am to 11. The intermittent will be at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in De Graff.
Shirley Jane (Hendrickson) Mitteness was born November 5, 1938, to Lawrence and Elsie (Draheim) Hendrickson, along with her identical twin sister (Sharon) in Benson. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. She was raised in Benson and graduated from Benson High School. She was united in marriage to Severt (Joe) Mitteness at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Holloway, Minnesota. They were blessed with five children: Kathy, Kay, Patty, Todd and Tim. They resided in Holloway until they moved to Anoka in 1969. After Joe’s retirement, they returned to Benson.
Shirley was a devoted wife, loving mother, and meticulous homemaker. She enjoyed baking, planting flowers, gardening, decorating, reading, shopping and spending time with family and friends. She worked at the Anoka High School, Anoka County Courthouse and the Benson Hospital.
Shirley is survived by her five children: Kathy (Kevin) Skjei of Appleton, Kay (Barry) Hafermann of Elko New Market, Patty (Richard) Cooper of Cottage Grove, Todd (Julie) Mitteness of Phoenix, Arizona and Tim Mitteness of Norfolk, Massachusetts; ten grandchildren: Kirsten (Ross) Olness, Kyle (Darcy) Skjei, Matthew (Brandy) Hafermann, Michael Hafermann, Stefanie Hafermann, Andrew Cooper, Anne Cooper, Nicolette (Mike) Mitteness-Pache, Madison Mitteness and Carson Mitteness; seven great grandchildren: Harper, Hadley and Hollyn Olness, Finley, Leni and Sadie Skjei, and Cyrus Hafermann; special friend: Mike Gallagher and family; sisters: Margaret Cota, Mildred Christopherson, Ramona (Mona) Welker and Sharon Mitteness; sister-in-law: Idella Hendrickson; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Severt Mitteness Jr. in 1996; her parents: Lawrence and Elsie Hendrickson; her siblings: LeRoy Hendrickson, Dillion Hendrickson, Charles Hendrickson and Donna Carlson.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Scandi Haven Memory Care and the Hospice Agency for their excellent care.
