Steven "Steve" Boraas

Steve Boraas, age 62, of Appleton, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023, in Appleton Area Health-Hospital. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. Interment will be in Appleton City Cemetery. Pastor John Ramsbacher will officiate.

Steven James Boraas was born June 2, 1960, the son of James and Donna (Loose) Boraas, in Montevideo, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Steve loved the outdoors. He was widely known for his expertise in all things related to hunting, fishing, and trapping. For Steve, his home was his base camp. Steve’s other passions and talents included photography, pencil drawing, snow & water skiing, scuba diving, music, motorcycling, mountain climbing, sky diving, and watching Seinfeld. Whether it was work or play, Steve was passionate about everything he did and always brought his best. Steve’s final hunt occurred in Colorado, last November, where he harvested a very huge bull elk. Steve will always be remembered for his infectious smile and contagious laugh.

Steve was fortunate to work for LaBolt Farmers Grain Co. in LaBolt, SD. This generous, thoughtful, and caring Company really took care of Steve professionally and personally, especially as his health diminished. Besides working in LaBolt, his other two “best jobs” were the times he spent at MBI Energy in the ND oil fields and Pioneer Public Television in Appleton.

Steve passed away Friday, April 28, 2023, at the age of 62. Those left to cherish his memory include: his father, James R. Boraas of Appleton; his siblings: Brad D. (Teresa) Boraas of Sherrard, IL, Jayson A. Boraas of Hutchinson, and Jaclyn S. (Lee) Stock of Olivia; his four nieces and four nephews; and his lifelong best friend, Tom Nelson, of Appleton. Steve had no children himself but took great pride in his siblings and all his nieces and nephews. When asked he would say “he was lucky to come from the best family in the whole world”. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Mae Boraas in 2009. Blessed be his memory.
