Thomas Robert Huston

November 27, 1944 — December 1, 2019

Thomas Robert Huston was born on November 27, 1944, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Kenneth Robert and Mary Ann Huston. He was baptized on December 26, 1944 at West Bank Lutheran Church near Danvers and was confirmed there on June 8, 1958. He lived in Swenoda Township and went to District 34 country school until 9th grade and later graduated from Benson High School. Tom served his country as a member of the Army National Guard from 1961 to 1971.


After graduating in 1964, he worked for many trucking operations including: Borstad Brothers Trucking, Berens Trucking, BAM Trucking, Case/Tyler, Blair Livestock, Commerford Construction, and Dooley’s Petroleum.


On March 4, 1967, Tom was united in marriage to Rebecca Kay Schomburg by Pastor Paul Samuelson at West Bank Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with over 52 years of marriage. Tom was also owner of Tom’s Direct Service from 1969 to 1974 and along with his wife Becky, owned and managed Huston Truck Lines from 1974 until 1985 where he hauled grain, farm equipment, livestock, and a variety of dry van items including potatoes and packaged oil.


Tom enjoyed many years at Shady Rest Resort Campground near Villard, MN in the camper that he and Becky enjoyed together. He also enjoyed a few years in the RV enjoying the winters in Apache Junction, AZ. He really liked to watch and participate in helping his son Scott and his grandson Jake, race their stock cars around the local dirt tracks. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR. Tom was also involved in the Benson Wrestling Boosters Club and he served as an usher and council member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson.


Tom is survived by his wife Becky Huston of Benson; his children; Scott (Rosie) Huston of Benson; Rhonda Huston Christoffers (fiancée Jason McCoy) of Grove City, Lance (Stephanie) Huston of Northfield, and Chad (Melanie) Huston of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his grandchildren Joshua Christoffers, Nathan Christoffers, James Huston, Jacob (Maria) Huston, Grant Huston, Noah Huston, Grace Huston, Isabelle Huston, step-grandchildren Melody Dillabough, and Peter Moe; great grandchildren Joseph Huston, Aiyana Christoffers, step great grandchildren Draven Dillabough and Kiara Dillabough; sisters Jean (Daryl) Rasmussen of Benson, Joann (Dave) Lee of Echo, and Mary Ann (Roger) Canon of Willmar; sister-in-law Karen Schomburg; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Mary Huston, mother and father-in-law Ralph and Gertrude (Sampson) Schomburg, sister and brother-in-law Judith and Louis Barton, and nephews Brad Mitchell and Darin Rassmussen.
