Tommy Abeyta, 70, of Benson, Minnesota, died Monday, December 22, 2025, at his home in Benson. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2026, with a 6:00 p.m. parish prayer service, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. Visitation will continue Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the St. Francis Catholic Church Cemetery. Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is assisting the family with arrangements.
Tommy Wayne Abeyta was born November 16, 1955, at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico, to Stephen and Cynthia (Axtell) Abeyta. He was baptized in 1956 at the Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico, and confirmed at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Burlingame, CA. Tommy grew up in the Burlingame area and attended school in Burlingame, graduating from Burlingame High School in 1973. He continued his education at Willmar Community College in Willmar, Minnesota, receiving an Associate in Arts Degree in social work.
On May 19, 1990, Tommy married Jennifer Mary Strutz at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willmar, MN. Together they raised two sons: Travis and Trey. Tommy worked as a carpenter for Aaron Carlson. He enjoyed history, historical re-enactments, and leather craft. He was a member of the White Oaks Society and St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, MN.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Abeyta of Benson; sons: Travis Abeyta of Benson and Trey Abeyta of Benson; and stepfather, Roger Clark of New London.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Stephen Abeyta and Cynthia Abeyta-Clark; brother, Roderick Abeyta, and several aunts and uncles.
