Welton Wallace “Winty” Dokkebakken, 82, was born January 12, 1941 in Benson, Minnesota. He was the son of Vernon and Ellen (Thone) Dokkebakken. Winty grew up in Swift Falls, Minnesota, where he was baptized and confirmed at Swift Falls Lutheran Church. He attended grade school at District 13 school until eighth grade. He went on to attend Benson High School, graduating in 1959.

On January 4, 1964, Winty was united in marriage to Diane Lee Amundson. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage and had 4 children: an infant son, Corey, Jana, and Jamie.

Winty worked at Mid-American Dairymen from age 17 until his retirement in 2006. During this time, he worked in Benson until 1986 when he was transferred to the Fergus Falls plant. After retirement he worked for Auto Value until moving into assisted living in August of 2022. He truly enjoyed his work and visiting with all the dairy farmers. He had many friends among them. It was rare if he was out and about and didn’t run into someone he knew or someone who knew him.

Winty was a hard worker and in his spare time enjoyed tinkering in his garage. He enjoyed watching all the westerns on television. John Wayne’s western movies were some of his favorites.

He loved spending time at his family farm where he grew up. Deer hunting with his family was a yearly adventure at the farm. He enjoyed telling the grandkids stories of past times. He also loved fishing with family and friends, and hanging out with his faithful companion, his dog, Max.

Winty served as a volunteer fireman for 17 years on the Benson Fire Department and was a proud member of the Minnesota National Guard.

Welton “Winty” Dokkebakken died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, August 4, 2023, at the Edgewood Assisted living facility in Alexandria, Minnesota.
