William Erick Hoberg was born May 9, 1950, at the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, Minnesota, to Rolland Henry and Pearl Jeanette (Erickson) Hoberg. He was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, Minnesota. He attended Ortonville Public Schools and graduated from Ortonville High School as the Valedictorian of his 1968 class. Bill then attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, on a football scholarship, graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Education. That fall Bill introduced a new class to Benson High School, teaching Vocational Agriculture, and establishing a Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter. Bill began his banking career in 1976 at Swift County Bank in Benson and worked there until 1985. He then went to work at State Bank of Danvers, retiring in 2018 as Vice President.

August 5, 1972, William was united in marriage to Judy Kay Felton at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville, Minnesota, by Rev. Martin Renner. Together they moved to Benson, Minnesota, where they resided for 52 years. Bill and Judy were blessed with two sons, two daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, 56 years of love, and 52 years of marriage.

Through the years, Bill was active with church, school, and community activities in Benson. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he proudly served on the church council as treasurer, usher, and was part of the men’s group. He volunteered with the Kiwanis Club, Swift County 4-H, Scofield Board, Bluebird Recovery Program, and Telelaget of America Board.

Bill enjoyed pheasant hunting and deer hunting in the back 80 acres and the farm in Ortonville. He made graduation trunks for his grandchildren, Easter animals, and Christmas angels in his woodworking shop. He enjoyed gardening, planting and maintaining CRP contracts, and checking on the crops. He loved the years we had a U-Pick strawberry operation that kept the whole family busy with the growing season.

Bill was very loyal to his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed cheering them on at their many activities and sporting events. He will be remembered for his integrity, huge heart, warm smile and laugh, and many acts of kindness to others.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Judy Hoberg of Benson, MN, sons Robert (Krista) Hoberg and children Alexis, Brooke, and Coltan of Benson, MN, and Scott (Margaret) Hoberg and children Henry, Elsie, and Cora, of Duluth, MN. He is also survived by his sister Joyce (Brian) Kaatz of Sioux Falls, SD, sister-in-law Janet (Jon) Pierce of Minong, WI, and brother-in-law Don (Jeanette) Felton of Odessa, MN.
