Wyonne Norby, age 92, of Appleton, Minnesota, died Monday, December 23, 2024, at the Appleton Area Health - Hospital. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton. Visitation will continue Thursday, January 2, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Big Bend Lutheran Church, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Appleton City Cemetery. Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton is assisting the family with arrangements.
Wyonne Kathryn Selma Norby was born September 16, 1932, the daughter of Helmer and Jennie (Wold) Krugerud in Cerro Gordo Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota. She was baptized November 6, 1932, by Reverend G. S. Froiland at Baxter Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo, Minnesota. June 15, 1947, she was confirmed by Reverend Martin Lien at Boyd Trinity Lutheran Church.
Wyonne grew up in Lac qui Parle County, attended rural schools through eighth grade, and graduated from Dawson High School in 1951. After high school, Wyonne worked at the bakery and then was employed at the Montevideo Hospital from 1952 to 1958. She later worked at the Appleton Clinic and Hospital as a medical laboratory technician until her retirement on November 11, 2010.
January 17, 1958, Wyonne married the love of her life, Carroll Norby,at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson, Minnesota. Reverend William Hood officiated the ceremony. They loved to dance and spent many nights dancing together. They lived in rural Milan, Minnesota, raising their three children: Ruth Marie, Mary Ann, and John Carroll. They wanted their children to have names from the Bible.
Wyonne was active in her church in a variety of ways. She was a second grade Sunday School teacher for many years, was a member of the Rachel Circle, and a member of WELCA. She enjoyed serving her Lord at Big Bend Lutheran Church and read her devotions and Bible every day. Wyonne enjoyed taking care of a big garden and participating in card club. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family – her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Wyonne was called from this life Monday, December 23, 2024, at the Appleton Area Health – Hospital in Appleton, Minnesota. She was 92 years old.
Wyonne is survived by her children: Ruthy (Lynn) Henkelman of Appleton, MN, Mary (Gregg) Birhanzl of Montevideo, MN, and John Norby of Appleton, MN; eight grandchildren: Nicholas (Laura) Henkelman, Camille (Chad) Anderson, Dustin (Michelle) Henkelman, Travis (Kati) Birhanzl, Shantel (Andy) Kinman, Kelsey Bristle (Bryce Irwin), Julian (Courtney) Norby, and Garrett Norby; sixteen great-grandchildren: Ava and Elise Henkelman, Carter and Callista Anderson, Hunter, Ella, and Grace Henkelman, Emmary, Kory, Tenley, and Kashen Birhanzl, Jayla and Koyer Kinman, and Rykurt, Knox, and Linkoln Bristle; siblings: Phyllis Anderson of Dawson, MN, Stanford (Karen) Krugerud of Dawson, MN, Bethel (Gary) Olson of Waverly, MN, and Verdell (Mary) Krugerud of Hutchinson, MN.
Preceding Wyonne in death were her husband Carroll Norby, parents Helmer and Jennie Krugerud, father and mother-in-law Julien and Edith Norby, sister and brother-in-law Beverly (Milo) Grams, brother Gaylen Krugerud, brother-in-law Roger Anderson, and brother and sister-in-law Floyd (Elvina) Norby.
