Stanley Harold Schliep

Stanley Harold Schliep was born August 10, 1929 to parents Peter and Emma (Mesenbrink) Schliep, in their home in Fairfield Township, Swift County, Minnesota.  He was baptized at home on August 10, 1929 by Rev. Jaus and was confirmed May 16, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church –Fairfield Township, by Rev. Meichner.  Stanley was raised on the home farm in rural Holloway.  He attended country school through the Eighth grade.  On November 10, 1951 he was united in marriage to Marion Jane Tofte, by Rev. Wm. Peterson, at Drywood Lutheran Church.  This union was blessed with 64 years together and four children: Ron, Cheryl, Marilyn, and Stanton.

Stanley and Marion became the 3rd generation of the Schliep family to reside on the “home farm.”  During those years he farmed with his dad, Peter, brother, Ralph, and son, Ron.  During this time, Stanley had the honor of being recognized as a Century Farm.  Upon retirement in 1995, Stanley and Marion purchased a home in Holloway.  He would still make daily trips to the farm to help his son, Ron.  Stanley loved the farm and enjoyed taking drives to look at the crops.  He felt very blessed that the 4th and 5th generations of the Schliep family are working the very same land that he tended, as well as raising the 6th generation of the Schliep family.  Stanley and Marion took great pride in their home and yard in Holloway, having an immaculate lawn and beautiful gardens.  He was a council member of Trinity Lutheran Church –Fairfield Township and was a past member of the Holloway Market Board of Directors.  Stanley enjoyed gardening, woodworking, dancing, and visiting.  He was known to be a story-teller, especially when it came to local history.  Stanley was kind, soft-spoken, and was quick with an easy chuckle or two.  He adored his grandchildren…he would tease them and they would tease him back!  Most of all, Stanley was proud of his family and loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Stanley is survived by  his children: Ron (Joann) Schliep of Holloway, Cheryl (Tom) Gustafson of Hutchinson, Marilyn (Dennis) Gallagher of Valdese NC, Stanton (Jennifer) Schliep of Holmen, WI; grandchildren: Doug (Alicia) Schliep, Dan Schliep, Janelle Schliep, Kimanae (Jeremy) Asmussen,  Ben Gustafson, Lucas (Amanda) Gustafson, Justine (Alden) Elliott, Shannon (Steven) Gatlin, Tyler (Danelle) Schliep and Anthony Schliep; great-grandchildren: Jacob and Emma Schliep, Noah and Lillian Gustafson, Hayden and Elijah Gustafson, Theo Elliott, Greyson Gatlin, and Avery Schliep; sister, Irene (Ken) VanHorn of Morris; sisters-in-law: Elvera (Stanley) Sachs, Phyllis Banken, Deanna (Marcel) Hoffman and Janet Tofte; brothers-in-law: David Tofte, Donald (Connie) Tofte, Norman (Sue) Tofte, Norman (Becky) Hoffman and Eric Allen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by wife, Marion on April 23, 2016; his parents, Peter and Emma Schliep; parents-in-law, Ingvald and Eleanor Tofte; sister, JoAnn (Schliep) Allen; brothers: Virgil (Edith) Schliep, Ralph (Nola) Schliep; sister-in-law, Eileen Hoffman; brother-in-law, Theodore Banken Jr.; and granddaughter-in-law, Misty Gustafson.
