Goldie Alice Schmidt, age 95, of Appleton, died Friday, February 20, 2015 at Appleton Area Hospital. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Burial will be in the Appleton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church. Goldie Alice (Fawcett) Schmidt was born January 2, 1920 in Osseo Minnesota to Homan and Kathryn (Tschudy) Fawcett. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Osseo and graduated from grade school, Correll High School, and Winona State College with a Teaching Degree and taught at MN Lake. On June 18, 1941, Goldie was united in marriage to Ralph C. Schmidt in Correll, Minnesota. This union was blessed with more than 73 years of marriage, three sons, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. After marriage, they lived in Appleton. Ralph then enlisted in the US Army and was later assigned to duty in New Orleans where Goldie also moved to be with him and worked at Consolidated Aircraft PBY (patrol bomber factory). After the war, they made their home in Appleton and she taught school in Milan and Correll and worked for Pioneer Public TV. Goldie served as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and an active volunteer at Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed music, playing bridge, spending time with family, time at the cottage, and gardening. Goldie is survived by her husband, Ralph Schmidt of Appleton; 3 sons: Malcolm (Melody) Schmidt of Marietta, Georgia, Wade (Cheryl) Schmidt of Appleton, and Clyde (Joan) Schmidt of Metropolis, Illinois; 6 grandchildren: Meghan King, Patrick Schmidt, Andrew Schmidt, Kathryn Culhane, Clara Tengwall, and Amelia Schmidt; and 3 great-grandchildren: Keegan Culhane, Caleb Schmidt, and Emma Tengwall. Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, Homan and Kathryn Fawcett; infant son, Giles Schmidt; and 2 sisters, Hazel Dawson and Mildred Nelson. Angels watch over you. Heaven gained another Angel today.
