Mary Magdalene Block

Mary M. Block, age 71, of Correll, Minnesota, died on Saturday evening, November 16, 2024, at the Appleton Care Center in Appleton, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Zniewski Funeral Home - Vaala Chapel in Appleton, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 pm. Burial will be in the Appleton City Cemetery. Zniewski Funeral Home - Vaala Chapel of Appleton is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Mary Magdalene Block was born on April 4, 1953, in Appleton, Minnesota, the daughter of Willie Henry and Marjorie Ann (Heldt) Stock. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Catholic Church in Appleton. She grew up on several different farms during her childhood and the family finally settled on a farm near Correll.  She graduated from Appleton Senior High School with the class of 1971. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English at the University of Minnesota – Morris, graduating in 1975.

Mary worked at the Correll Post Office for a time where she met Michael Block, and on April 21, 2007, they were united in marriage. They enjoyed spending all their time together going for drives, gardening, and playing cards, especially Buck Euchre, which would often bring out Mary’s competitive spirit. Mary loved spending time with her family and times spent hosting events, particularly her themed Halloween parties for which she would sew costumes. She was an avid Buck player and was delighted to win!

Mary was a skilled seamstress and shared her gift by sewing numerous outfits for her nieces and nephews, prom dresses, bridesmaids’ dresses, and wedding dresses for family members. She enjoyed reading, gardening, flowers, baking, and crafting. Mary will be forever remembered by her family and friends for her generous, kind, and loving spirit. She was called from this life on Saturday evening, November 16, 2024, at the Appleton Care Center. She attained the age of 71 years, 7 months, and 12 days of age.

She is survived by her husband Michael of Correll; daughter Amy (Calvin) Schumacher of Morgan; granddaughters Evelyn, Rachel, and Danielle; siblings: Catherine Thomas, James (Kim) Stock, William (Lila) Stock, John (Connie) Stock, Sarah (Jason) Boonstra, Theodore (Debby) Stock, and Cora (Bryan) Haugen; uncle Albert Heldt; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and several other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Marjorie in 2000, her father Willie Stock in 1992, sister Laura (Stock) Carrington in 2014, and brother-in-law Thomas Carrington in 2024.
